Default "Polishing a Turd" 1/32 Academy F-16

To quote Habu from over in the jets, forum, it's time to polish this 'turd'!

The first pic is how I cut the Aires cockpit set to fit better. The last time I tried this (this is a replacement fuselage from Pig, thanks dude!) it was more trouble than it was worth trying to carve out that back splash. So I cut it level and I will detail out the kit back splash myself.

Here's how it fits. I know there's a gap at the back, but that can corrected with some strip styrene.

Lot's of work left to go, but it's a start none the less.

Fire away boys. I'm gonna need all the help I can get on this bad boy.

Will

The Aires pit really cleans up the cockpit from the kit offering. Looks like you have a good start on it.

I do have one question; what's with the extra spacing in front of the glare sheild? Is that part of the resin glare shield?

Looking goodn Spaced, I have two of these in the stash plus the Aries pit & wheel bay sets.

I would be great if you could show a lot of updates on this project Spaced, I will following it with keen interest.

By the way, what squadron/decals?

Yeah, that spacing is part of the resin set. I don't why Aires did that, but its on the set for the Tamiya kit too. With everything else to do in this kit, that I'm not sweating.

Yeah, I hadn'tnoticed that before, but then again I don't have the Aires pit.

Well, even resin aftermarket can't be expected to be 100% (even 90%) and that's understandable as it has to work within the parameters of the kit. Sometimes compromises need to be made and considering that Academy dimensionally botched up the 32nd F-16, it should come as no surprise.

No matter what, the Aires pit is much better than the kit. Looking forward to your progress on this project.

The Aires set is a world of improvement over the kit. As is the their wheel bay set, also to be used in this turd polishing.

Once I get the cockpit situated, I'll get it painted and the rest of this kitty togetehr.

Some inspiration for you... The Academy kit entered in last year's Scale Model World. Probably the best build up of the Academy kit I've seen.

I'm anxious to see how this one turns out. I've got on of these in my stash and may as well build it....turd or no turd. I've got an old Black Box cockpit for it but it's probably not as nice as the Aires set.

Great looking progress BTW...can't wait for more!

I believe the BB cockpit is better in some ways; one being the glare shield.
