Hi guys

I quoted Jake from the Aviation Photgraphy forum. Hope you don't mind.

Really nice photos!! What a great scheme.

I'm working on the Mincraft 1/144 kit and using the Isra decals which are really superb.

I'd love to see the decals for the Mansfield Herc done in 1/144th.
Any takers???

I was wondering about the Pitot tubes on the Ohio Mansfield Herc. I noticed that it has 2 on one side in a different spot not the usual single tube. Is this a different mark of Herc or a mod done later in the Hercs life?

Thanks for any info.

cheers

Andy

No, I don't mind at all, Andy. I would love to see some decals for this.

I don't know squat about C-130s, so I'm probably of very little help. It looks to me like it is just a standard location for the pitots on the C-130H.

I would suggest getting touch with Mark at Wolfpak Decals, from what I've seen,he would be the most interested in that scheme to possibly slap on a future sheet.I don't think he does 1/144th scale but I'm sure he would ponder a 1/72 release, worst that can happen is he says no.

Yes it looks standard but I have photos of an Royal Jordanian Herc "H" model and it has a single pitot tube?Maybe it was done to late versions or US only?

Wheres a Herc God when you need him

Jake- by chance do any of your shots of this bird include the rear troop doors? If so and the windows are square- ish, along with the double pitots, I think this could be a late model C-130H-3. As I understand, the H-3 was sort of a "bridge" between the H and J models- similar to the Block 25 Viper. Cheers! Brian

The windows are square. Also I sent Mark at Wolfpak a bunch of pictures last year but do not know if he plans on doing them.

Thanks for the verification, Mike! Do you know if Gustav is toying with some type of family of upgrades for the 1/72 Italeri Herk kit series? They sure could use a good update... Brian

I think your confusing Wolfpak with Wolfpack. Wolfpak makes decals and that is who I had sent the pictures to.

This unit flys the C-130H2.5. It is a follow-on to the H-1 series of aircraft just short of the best C-130 made. The C-130H3. The 2.5 comes from a hybrid moderization program to update the aircraft. The two pitot tubes you see are the Rosemount Pitot System. It is a more accurate system except near the ground. That is why our Take off and Landing Data are different from the E to the H-1 to the H-2 and H-3. If you want to know anymore about C-130's, just let me know. I have almost 4500 hours flying them and am an Evaluator Flight Engineer with over 20 years of working on or flying the mighty Herk.

Awesome, Kel... I know Mansfield flies late model H's, but It's hard to tell the H sub-variants apart (H1/H2/H3) without knowing exactly what you're looking for. Any chance you could do up a "Sticky" outlining the visual differences between the different E and H variations? Brian

Great info thanks for the udate Kel!

Weve got a Rosemount system on our Learjets so I'm kind of familiar with what your talking about.

I've got Herc problems.

The Royal Jordanian Herc Im doing has 2 funny looking aerials on the rear uper fuselage.
Anyone have better pics or drawings to show how I can build the aerial?
Heres a photo

Thanks for any help or guidance.

Andy

Andy,

If you have a 1/72 Hasegawa F-4E or EJ, they all come with a three- post LORAN antenna which is VERY similar to the HF "Towel Racks" on this C-130. Not sure they'd fit a 1/72 C-130, but VERY likely would be about right on a 1/144 Herk kit. You'd need two F-4 kits to get the requisite number of antennae.

HTH,

Brian

I'm pretty sure most of the Italeri Hercs come with a set of those. I never use them, so I'll check my stash when I get home tonight. Shoot me a pm, and I'll see about getting them to you.
