Default OEF-Depl. German Air Force, Tornado RECON Wing 51, Mazar-e-Sharif Air Base ,Afgh.2007

OK guys, please read first:
I do not like to flood the thread with projects for the gallery and I do not intend to send a second project into GB competition. The GB means a lot of fun and ya`ll a great bunch of people. I just like to share pictures and ideas of a project, that was the head of my list since two years...but I never had permission to use or publish pics of it, so it didn`t make sense to open up a thread - SO FAR!

About 48 hours ago I received permission to publish and use the pics of the German Air Force deployment to Afghanistan showing some interesting details of the TOrnado Aircraft and the new High-Res-Recce pod.I checked out with Willieself and he agreed that this could be interesting to show and sharing pics would be great. Now, that`s what we are here for I guess- sharing our great hobby...so it is a pleasuer for me to show some of the pics that will be the basement of my diorama I do after the "Al-Udeid"-thing.Copyright of the pics is with MARIAN CIHON - Thanks a lot for your great pics and your permission to use the pics.

The dio itself will be the most challenging so far as I got a Tornado KIT in 1/48 , that needs more putty than glue...and thats all.I`ve no decals for RECON Wing 51, no Resin RECCE pod, no typical german acces ladders...and so on...but isn`t that the kind of challenge we are looking for....it will take a lot of time....for sure...and I don`t expect it to be finished within the GB timeframe, but it meets the GB criteria and it should be a good home here. I guess fury can remove the thread to the -in progress - when the GB deadline has come and I should be still at work.....

Great pics! I was originally wanting to do a German Tornado when we started this thing, but I couldn't find ANYTHING for reference. Looking forward to your progress, especially if you're using the Shitaleri kit.

Nice looking Tornado! I've always been a fan of the Fin/Tonka whatever nickname you like.

Hey if your need specific walkaround pics, I've been to Mazar-e-Sharif from July till october 2008 as wing flight safety officer. Took a milion walkaround pics before I left. The new recce pod has not been there but I' ve enough of the rest.

@ORANGF15GUY
@SPACED

Yeaph guys , the Germans have been in theater and they still are....they have a large contingent at Mazar e Sharif and at Kundus.

I am a little bit sad that the TOrnados fly now the grey camo schemes...I loved them more wearing the original camo of the 80ies and 90ies...like this:

Is the new recce pod the same one to be used by the Typhoon? If it is,it's in the RoG Typhoon kit and I'd be happy to let you have it.

Hey dudes, after recovering this topic all the patience has been dropped and I grapped out one of my Italerikits to test how it fits....

After some hours, glue,putty and a bit of air brushing....I saw this:

Don`t know yet but I guess I will open some of the bays...maybe I beginn I new kit and use this one just as testbed to see the many shortcomings that need to be done...
