Default Buckeye Viper pt. 1

Now that the Vark is on hold again (only for the moment, until I decide how I want to do it) I've finally started on an Ohio viper. I haven't decided on which one yet, but most likely will be an FY'87 machine. Here's what's done so far.

Overall:

Kit tub with some scratched parts:

inst. panel and coaming are resin copies of the Aires part w/ eduard zoom PE:

All together now:

more to come as time allows....

I forgot the seat. Almost done sans the decals....
It's the black box F-15 seat modified. The guide rails are wrong (for a viper), but other than that it's one of the better available.

thanks for looking,
Mike

Damn it! Too many good Viper builds going on, and I can't join in!....yet...
I'll be bringing most of my bench with me at the end of the month. Then I can rejoin the party. Good work!

Haha! I know huh? I was flying solo there for about 2-3 builds. My Belgian Viper is still half done, that'll probably be what I pick up when I'm able to build here.

I've been following that one closely! I've got a few Dutch MLU's I'd like to build. I've got all the goodies for the hasegawa kits, and the kinetic was such a let down, but I might just have to try the tammy conversion once you're done!
Of course I've still got to finish a couple more Ohio and Terre Haute birds first!!

I almost bought the Kinetic MLU last weekend....but I figured the $40 would be better spent elsewhere.

I've started...and stopped... about 100 hundred times now. I really like how the intake fits together and it's not a bad kit overall. But all the work I'd have to put into it to get it to look decent I could put towards a hasegawa that I know will turn out nice.
I'll eventually build it. Probably a BAF bird with a TARS pod I've got. maybe the pod will distract everyone from the kit itself!!

That cockpit looks great, Mike! Is this going to be 0283?

Thanks, Jake. I haven't decided yet. It's between that and triple deuce. I'm leaning toward '222, but not a fan of the Grave Digger nose art. Maybe Scooby.

Excellent work Mike!Makes me want to pull out my Tamiya Viper and do some work on it,but I have to resist that urge until I get my Phantom(s) further along.

Did you use guitar string for the O2 hose?

Aw, I love the Grave Digger! Once I finish building Dan's I'm going to build that jet for me. I gave my 1/32 Scooby away to the squadron commander, so I now have no Ohio jets in my collection.

Thanks, Dave. This one is a test for '261 which I also started on, but wanted to wait and see how the details turned out.

No, I tried that before, but it was too stiff to bend the way I wanted. I used fine copper wire wrapped around another strand of itself. I use copper electrical wire and fine solder for kit wiring and plumbing. Amazing the things you can find on benchstock!!

It's growing on me. I'm pretty sure it'll be '222. I screwed up the intake, so I'm going to use a cover since I have markings for them.
'271 and '283 will be full intake kits, so they'll come later.
I was thinking about doing '283 but w/ MR's name, but seeing that Col. Lohnes was the last active F-100 pilot to retire I'll use his.

Thanks for all the kind words guys.
Stay tuned for more updates this weekend.

Hey man, I understand. I had to sit on this one and my Terre Haute viper while I cleared out some of my back-logged builds first! I've got 3 more Buckeye vipers teed up as well!

Back from the Dead! The Vark is done and I can pick up some lost builds.
This one was dead for good until Kelly Quirk was man enough to admit he had trouble building one that I could put pride aside and pick it back up. I had really messed it up. I guess I got lazy and complacent with it being tamiya. I tried cramming too much detail into it and that threw off the fit.
I've cleaned it up and fixed some of the issues. I'll try to post an update pic later.
