Default A-6E INTRUDERS Desert Storm pt1!

Now that I'm back around, I thought we'd post up some more of the upcoming sheets. Sorry that the SR-71 isn't in this round but these have actually been waiting longer in the stack.

Back before we even did our first A-6E VA-75 sheet, we got a bunch of requests for Desert Storm Nose Art. So we drew up what we could but it wasn't until recently that the missing pieces were found. We've said for a while that we were holding the release of the next couple A-6 sheets until the Kinetic kit comes out but with the Revell re-release kicking off the year, it's perfect timing with the 20th Anniversary of Desert Storm - this sheet fills in a missing product number in the catalog. This will also be our first venture into a large format sheet, covering a full 8.5x11 sheet. We're showing 12 options but the sheet has more.

Here's a teaser until we get closer to the release date. We're spreading out the other A-6 sheets in later releases and will show the art for those after this one hits the streets.

Enjoy!
Releasing this week!

This shows 7 of the 10 aircraft included. We decided to move the VA-35 Black Panthers to the second A-6 sheet coming out right behind this one.

Not all sheets included are shown.

OMG, VA-155 at last!!!! Oh and Buno 152928 too. Sadly couldn't get the references for that one - it got shot down during ODS.

I hadn't planned on doing many intruders before.

Cheers,

Thanks for posting those Peter! I really wanted to get 502 on there. Would be cool to build it as a diorama having just landed and having the crew inspect all those bullet holes. Grumman Ironworks, indeed!

Welcome Back, Brian.

Now this is coming back in style!
I'd thought I'd stick to 1/72 for Intruders, but this is freaking awesome.
I had no idea that VA-155 flew combat in camouflaged A-6E's like that.

BTW...is VF-1 of 1974-75 in this round?

Cheers, Stefan.

No, VA-155 did not. It was actually for a Red Flag exercise in the late 80's. Buno 152928 was one of two Intruders to evaluate the desert two tone paint. 152928 was then transferred from it's assignment from the Boomers to VA-155 which ended up getting shot down on the opening night of Desert Storm.

The jet I did my research on has this plaque attached to one of the port weapons pylon:

To add on a little info to the above - 149943 and 152928 were painted in 1990, or at least that's the date shown on the slides. They didn't particiapte in ODS proper, and as mentioned, 152928 was passed on to VA-155 where it was shot down and lost.

We thought it was too cool to leave off as we have a number of other camo jets on the sheet as well.

Thanks, Ryan.

I hadn't seen enough images from the low-viz era to recognise VA-155 and VA-165's markings.
This is actually the first time that I see a clear image of VA-155's markings with the Fox's head. I was still pretty much thinking of VA-155 as a Vietnam-era Skyhawk squadron.

Interesting plaque...very surprising for me to see the name DeWispeleare on it. It is a rather local name to me, his ancestors must have come from either East or West-Flanders (these being provinces of Belgium).

Cheers, Stefan.
