Default F-104's!

Hi,

Seeing the other neat threads, I can't resist starting my own about my F-104's.
I will not start building until the McAir GB is over though.
I have a large number of F-104's in the stash, but I've never built one. I was always wating for neat ceal sheets and aftermarket stuff.
Now, with the VPD and DACO sheets, I should finally start building them. I will build more in this GB if DACO succeeds in getting his F-104 update set released during this GB.
Quite a few F-104J's were bought when Sturmtiger was selling them at 10...for the price of 1 pair of Airdoc droptanks I could have 2 F-104's. One with 4 tanks and 1 without tanks(if I scratchbuilt the pylons).

Regardless of the release of the DACO set, I plan to build at least:

*A camo USAF F-104C with M117's in Vietnam VPD decals.
*A Marineflieger F-104G with 2 KORMORANS.
*A Luftwaffe RF-104G from Operation "Cowboy".
*A Belgian TF-104G.

Cheers, Stefan.

Hi,

I'll start off with the USAF F-104C.
I intend it to be one from the final deployment with the RWR-blister under the nose, so I'm pretty happy to have one of the Meteor Productions update sets.
Not much to show for the moment, pictures will follow later.

Now, a bit about the Belgian F-104's.
When I was born, our Air Force was flying F-104's and F-84F's.
I have always loved the Starfighter. I never knew them up close, but I did see them flying about as a kid.
I have no recollection of seeing F-84F's flying.

The four squadrons that flew the F-104 (No's 23, 31 349 and 350) also became F-16 squadrons.
23 and 31 were the 10th Fighterbomber Wing at Kleine Brogel and 349 and 350 were the 1st Fighter Wing at Beauvechain.

Serge Bonfond, a French-speaking Belgian, has a marvelous site with pictures of the Beauvechain Wing http://www.sergebonfond.be/index.php...mid=60&lang=fr

It includes pictures of The Slivers display team (1969-75) and Bill Ongena's solo demo's of the mid 1960's.

There is also a page about the 1970's http://www.sergebonfond.be/index.php...mid=60&lang=fr

This one includes an awesome air-to-air picture of The Slivers flying together with the YF-16.
http://www.sergebonfond.be/index.php...mid=60&lang=fr

Next sunday, it's 35 years ago that the Slivers performed fo the last time.
I never witnessed them live, but I did get to see the Vikings (German Navy F-104 display duo) in 1986.

Cheers, Stefan.

edit: the link to the Slivers with YF-16 picture seems to go to the 1970's page too, but you'll find it there. At the end are some of the very first operational F-16's anywhere after Hill AFB.
I like the old air show signs with the beer breweries "Stella Artois" and "Cristal Alken" as sponsors.
Somehow Belgian and German F-104's make me think of beer.

Hi,

Nice finish on the Dane.

I haven't done too much on the F-104's myself.
There wasn't much time for that: continuation of the Mac Air GB builds, a Spitfire and Me 109 because it's 70 years ago and getting started on a bunch of RAF stuff for the ARC Desert Shield Storm GB.
Luckily, Omaha is still a long way to go.

The last I heard from Danny was that the prices that had been quoted to him for the injection moulding of the update kit were a lot higher than he had expected.

Cheers, Stefan.
