How are you doing the metal?

Well here's the short answer.......Started off painting those areas gloss black and using AlcadII chrome, but was not happy with the result at all. The unit in Montana keep these jets spotless and polished the hell out of the areas around the exhaust and intakes, so looking at the reference pictures and speaking to a former crew chief I settled on using Bare Metal Foil Chrome self adhesive foil. I shot the pictures and shot them over to the crew chief and he said go with the foil, so that's what I did!

Looking good! As clean and shiny as I've seen in just about every photo of a "Six".

I am going to be very light with the panel line wash on this jet just because every picture of these Montana jets I've seen, shows them to be extremely clean and maintained by the ground personnel!

Small update......as I was doing the wash to bring out the panel lines on the Six Shooter I noticed something that didn't look right to me about the kit. It didn't have any position lights. It had circles where I thought they should go, but didn't have a clear piece that would go into the hole. So i went to the instructions and the paint guide and nothing. Later last week I happened to be close to the Evergreen Air and Space Museum, so I stopped by because I knew that they had an F-106 and I finally solved the mystery.
There are positions lights on the wings and there is a light on the vertical stab as well..... ![]() ![]() ![]() And here is how I solved it on the kit.......took some clear sprue and sanded it down to the circumference that I needed, then drilled out the holes in the wings and vertical stab and I'm coloring it done! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Almost have the wash complete and should start putting markings on it soon!

Thank you Sir, I'm glad that there was a real jet close by, or I'm not sure I would have caught it!

Small update on the Six Shooter......decals are going on! I'm not used to working with such big decals, but they are going down very well. Hope to have it standing on its legs this weekend!
![]() That's it for now......thanks for looking.

A lovely smooth and shiny finish - what did you use as a clearcoat?

That really has to be one of the best surface coatings I've seen on that air defence grey color scheme. Most of the times its waaayyy to shiny and reflective in my opinion. Keep up the good work!

But there is no clear coat on the model yet.....that's Model Master ADC gray enamel paint thinned at a rate of 50/50 with Mr. Color leveling thinner. I used a lower air reassure through by air brush and layed it down in thin coats and it layed down better than any gloss paint I've put on a model I will clearcoat it after I finish the decals, and I will use mr. Color thinner to thin the clear coat!

Hey Vin,
I am so sorry for not getting a couple of shots down the throat of this thing, I'am having a problem getting my camera to focus on the compressors. But I promise I'll try to get some posted!

How do the Aires resin sets fit?
I just got Aires Su-30 wheel wells to fit the Academy kit. I was seconds away from taking a hammer to the whole damned thing. I hope you had better luck with yours. Looking very good so far. Chris
