Default New Decals - OH-6A Loach in the Vietnam War

The next AOA decal release is a little different and will AOA's first 1/35 offering.

Sheet covers 23 Loaches/Cayuses (24 schemes) from Vietnam and is for the "old" Dragon (and Italeri rebox).

----------
1/48....
I'd like to release these in 1/48 at least too very soon after, but I'm not sure what the preferred kit is. I know of the recent AMP one but the skids aren't correct for the OH-6A, the old Tamiya one (I thought wasn't actually 1/48 though, or I remembering wrong), and then the Academy MD500/Quickboost OH-6A conversion option. The latter is the only one I personally have. So I don't know which to use to size the decals to. Looking for input here. Thanks!

----------

Those covered:
D Troop, 1st Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment (x3)
A Troop, 7th Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment (x2)
D Troop, 3rd Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment
F Troop, 4th Cavalry Regiment
F Troop, 8th Cavalry Regiment
C Troop, 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment (x2)
D Troop, 1st Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment
A Troop, 2nd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment
B Troop, 2nd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment
C Troop, 3rd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment (former D Trp, 3rd Sq, 5th Cav)
B Troop, 7th Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment (x2)
C Troop, 7th Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment
B Troop, 25th Aviation Battalion
B Company, 123rd Aviation Battalion
Casper Platoon, 173rd Airborne Brigade
326th Airborne Medical Company & HQ Company, 3rd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (x2)
Unknown unit (x2)

Two sets of stencils provided (including some interior)

Expected in May.
Price TBD

Hi,

Cool!
I'm surprised that you pick this subject, I gather most decal makers stick to subjects that have readily available kits.
I'd love to buy a couple of Dragon's 1/35 Loaches, but I don't see them around. I don't look on e-bay for kits, maybe that could help.
Maybe the release of your sheet could help persuade Dragon to finally re-release them.
Anyway, I'd buy this sheet even without kits.

I wasn't aware that Quickboost had a conversion set to make a 1/48 Loach until you mentioned it here. Could be interesting.

In 1/72, there's Italeri's Loach. I like 1/72, but a Loach is really small. I saw a vendor having some for sale at a good price last November, but I did not buy one.
Now I have bought a couple of these really nice 1/72 AZ Model AH-1G's, so I could use a 1/72 Loach to complete the Pink Team.

Cheers, Stefan.

I grew up looking at my father's Vietnam air cav slides. So I've always had a high interest in the Vietnam helos in particular and this is a subject I've wanted to do for a long time - even though the kit is currently OOP. The O-1 Bird Dog kit was also OOP when I released those decals. I assume many people still have the old kits in their stash since there hasn't been much out there for aftermarket markings (and the kit decals are pretty bad).

I have the 1/72 AZ model OH-6A but not the Italeri version. I'm not sure if I'll do this sheet in 1/72, may be a bit too small/clunky.

Hi,

Have you considered including unit patches for the crews?
Good to know there has been an Italeri re-box.

Cheers, Stefan.

Very very briefly, much too large project to do so in this case. Would take way too much time and effort to try to cover so many designs.
