Ok, I lied. Here's a quick look at where I started a few days ago. It's the Minicraft kit, Braz engines, and will sport decals from Avigraphics and Flying Colors. Winglets from Contrails.
Moral support by Jack Danials. Sheesh. This is definitely not the Minicraft DC-8. ![]() Last edited by meagap; December 12th, 2009 at 12:05 AM. |

Sweet! June 30 sounds good. Gives me plenty of time seeing as I'm coming into my busy season at work and what little time I get at home I try to spend with the family. Anyways can't wait to start that DC-8 on Sunday.

It's the Minicraft DC-8-63 Eastern Airlines boxing. I'm gonna use the kit decals. If I can find my camera, it grew legs, I will try to post some pics tomorrow.

Great start guys..
Personally, I am all for starting a kit from scratch, but I personally have so many started project sitting around that it would be silly to start another one.. So, for me, I will be doing an A340 (might make it an A330) and do it in Emirates markings... I just updated the first post!

Sorry I forgot that.
It's the Revell AG "Air Berlin" boxing ... 1/144 scale w/ Contrails winglets. Decals for American. Last edited by MarkR; December 12th, 2009 at 07:39 PM. |

I keep getting sucked into this thing. Here's where I'm at.
![]() I had to work on the nose a bit to get all the extra lumps and bumps off of it and get it looking like the real thing. It really wasn't that bad to fix and I think it looks pretty darned close to what it's supposed to look like. I also had to add a small piece of plastic to the top of the vertical stab to level it out. I cut out the lower fairing of the wing box (see earlier pic) so that I could get the wings square, and from past experience, I know I'm going to have to shim the gear to get the plane to sit level. I thought that the tail had a twist to it, but it turns out that it's pretty close to square the way it is. The only problem was that the horizontal stabs just wouldn't sit square when placed in their slots. So I cut the slots out, leaving just the holes for the slots. That way I can square up the stabs on my own. The winglets were cake. I just cut on the first panel line, drilled some holes for some pins, then super glued them on. Looks nice. One place where I screwed up was thinking I should install plugs for the fuselage extension. I should have just cut the donor kit and the working kit so that there would only be one seam at each joint rather than the two with each plug. Oh well. Next time. Now for the putty, primer, repeat. Of course, I always have to get an idea of what it's going to look like, so I mocked it up. The engines have been drilled and pinned, so they are just hanging there. And of course, I had to cut the Death Star out of the decal sheet to see what it would look like up on the tail. Last edited by meagap; December 12th, 2009 at 08:40 PM. |

Man you're doing an outstanding job on that POS kit.
When I got checked out to fly the 757 eight years ago I was so pschyed I went out an got that kit and immediately went to work on it. It was my first airliner kit. Even got the Bra Z RR engines because the kit engines absolutely suck. I experienced the same problems you've had. I finally got so fed up with it I threw it into a box and it has been sitting on a shelf ever since. The dang kit consumed way too much of my time. It was such a bad experience I thought I would swear off airliner kits for good. After seeing how good yours looks I just may have to dust off that old kit and try to finish it. |

Alright... I've officially started building last night. The were some ejector pin marks in the MLG wheel wells that needed filling and I started the process of filling in the pax windows. I'm off to do some research on the real thing for my project...err I mean I'm off to go to work for a few days. If I do anything build wise that is worthy of posting pictures I'll do that when I get back from my trip.

I need some inspiration to finish my Scandinavian Airlines MD-80 in paperplane markings. 1:144 scale.
