I'm on board with on of my favorite aircraft, the A-4 Skyhawk, and one of my favorite kits the 1/48 Hasegawa Skyhawk series.

Default What about USS KITTY HAWK F-18's in HI-VIZ??

I have been considering this one for a while, so maybe this will get me going. The jets could be, all Hasegawa 1/48 of course:

F-18F Diamondbanks (Kit or Twobobs decals)
F-18C Golden Dragons (Superscale decals)
F-18C Chippy Ho (Twobobs decals)
F-18E Royal Maces (Kit decals)

I have resin galore for these kits too so ejection sets/ cockpits and wheels should be well covered.

Anyone keen for me to do this lot? I need the inspiration, so let me know if you want me to give it a shot.

Cheers,
Kev C.

Yeah what's the cutoff date for joining? I really like the little Academy 1/72 Bronco kits and want to make all four variants with CMK interiors.

Default FAST packs

Rio / Aaron,

The Shogun Wing at Kadena flew with FAST packs on some of their F-15D models in the early 90s. Reason for the FAST packs... the second seat took up the space for the ECM gear. I mean... they are training jets, right!?! PACAF standard are ALQ-184 pods even then. The Clark AB 3rd TFS F-4Es and the 90th F-4Gs were carrying ALQ-184 at the same time. Our D model Eagles flew with the ALQ-184 pod on the centerline so lost that position for spooge vice gas. The FAST packs made up for the lack of a centerline tank. But it was very maintenece intensive. Every time there was an engine problem down came the FAST packs. If I remember right, you cannot open the engine bay doors with the FAST/CFTs on... is that corect Aaron?

When you put them back on, you had to leak check them... which is time consuming. Our Wing King later decided the F-15Ds would go into combat sans the FAST packs. Our Shogun Eagles carried 4 x AIM-7Ms on the FAST packs for combat loads at that time. This was on the pre-MSIP jets by the way so they were all Ghost Grey scheme jets at the time. We started getting MSIP PUP II jets after Desert Storm some time. Darren McTee would know more about when the wing started onboarding MSIP jets if you need exact dates.
