Default CV-61 VF-1 and VF-2 decals

A purely opinion question... I've seen many outstanding models of these squadrons, but decal companies that I've searched out only provide for the deployments on Enterprise, Connie and the change over to to VFA-2. I served on the Ranger and during that time the Wolfpack and Bounty Hunters served during Desert Storm around the clock duty, which included the "Hip Killer"....Maybe I'm just bitter that there are nearly to no CWN-5 decals from my time on the Midway.....what is it about the Ranger and Midway that gets no respect? I'm not disrespecting any other carriers or their attached fighter squadrons, but wondering why a part of those carrier airwings have been ignored.....

Same can be said for Forrestal and Saratoga, and the FDR. At least in the case of the FDR, it didn't serve long enough for someone to think about getting walk around detail shot of markings for models, like a carrier might have into the 90s and beyond. Or at least, a carriers/squadrons operations were more photographed beyond the time of the FDR.

There are some sporadic sheets here and there for both the Ranger, and to some extent, the Midway. But it may be something where you would have to cobble a couple of sheets together to get what you want.

Here’s a pretty comprehensive Wolfpack sheet. It’s available in 1/72 as well.

I dunno why but all I could think of after reading this is how cool would it be if VF-1 stuck around to become VFA-1?

Yeah, Fightertown did a sheet with Ranger-era VF-2 but good luck finding it. Someone just posted up a build with those markings the other day.

This was what I did about 8-10 years ago with the same idea in mind....Not the best, but it was fun none the less...

Looks like a real winner Eddie! I had more of the ‘first tomcat cruise/ hi-viz/ red and white’ image sorting through my dome-piece.
