Default VFA-101 History Build or Help

Guys

I was contacted by a Comander in VFA-101 down in Eglin AFB. He asked me to put out the word that VFA-101 is looking for Models of the history of the Squadron. in 1/48th scale. This is part of his e-mail. Any help would be great or Ideas.

Thanks
Dan

How could i go about sponsoring an unofficial model contest for the "Grim Reapers". I know that you probably have hundreds of friends that are amazing scale modelers. Here is the challenge i am proposing! I am very involved in building a new hangar to house and support VFA-101! thats right VFA-101 will be the first F-35C Lightning II JSF. Since we sit on an Air Force Base, our Navy history and heritage is a big part of telling the "Reapers' story. Needless to say, we have built into the hangar design an amazing foyer and display case that has tons of room for museum quality pieces. My goal is to populate it with historical documents, artifacts, plane parts and I am hoping scale models of the aircraft that the reapers flew throughout their proud history. From the F4F up to the Tomcat! First question for you is what is the best scale to use that would most likely have models available for the planes we are trying to duplicate? Second question, how can we garner support for this unofficial contest. The only real prize would be to have the winning model displayed in the most advanced hangar in the US Navy that would be proudly displayed for 30+ years.

It is still weird calling them vfa-101. It should be VF-101!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They had some great markings over the years.

I got with Luke about it, and told him I'd be thrilled to coordinate it with you guys on the site. I figure 1/48 is the way to go...we're really only missing a Banshee in 1/48.

Maybe FT would like to do a "history" sheet with us...donate the $$$ to some navy or other military charity?

We'll do whatever we can to help out. We've got a bunch of other VF-101, VF-124 and 101 Delta Det artwork done but looking for the timing and opportunity to get it out...

How about the Tailhook Education Foundation--you could sponsor a scholarship? They run a pretty tight ship, and it's always impressive to see the kids they send to school. More often than not, those kids end up being the kids of an aviator killed in the line of duty.

VF 101 was my all time favorite Tomcat squadron. The Grim Reaper just always seemed to epitomize what the Tomcat was all about. I would love to build a 'Cat in the overall Gull Grey scheme with the Reaper tail art....

But not in 1/72 scale.......
The only kits that missing in 1/72 are.....well, none......

Hey Dan, any details such as when he wants the kits completed?

Makes ya wonder how it all turned out. A navy fighter squadron at an Air Force base. A few dead CAGs have turned over in their graves.
