Default Legacy Hornet vents

I have a few 1/72 Hasegawa F/A-18C kits and wondered if anyone had had success modifying the mesh/vents under the nose section to produce a late block C Hornet?

Or am I fussing over something which will not be notice in 1/72 scale?

In 1/72, the mesh on those vents is so fine, you wont accurately reproduce it. Your best bet is to fill the vents, sand smooth, and then mask and paint a slightly darker shade of grey than the rest of the nose.
