How many airframes were modified to accept the ASAT missile? I know the airframes tested were all F-15A models... was there ever any talk of modifying C models in the same way? (I know the project was killed in 88) mostly I was just curious how long ASAT-modified airframes survived in the active duty fleets at McCord and Langley.

I don't think the ASAT went beyond that one airframe. Some jets were modded to carry the pylon and missile, but AFAIK no C's.

84 and 86 were both used in the asat program. I can dig more when I get home.

Confirming only two airframes 76-0084 and 76-0086 were modified for ASAT. Congress killed the program before any other airframes were modded.
76-0084 was used for the only ASM-135 ASAT launch. ![]() ![]()

I was just thinking how cool it might be to build an ASAT bird.. are the appropriate accessories hard to find?

The old Academy kits, including the Strike Eagle, come with the ASAT station 5 pylon and missile. Hasegawa did one too, but I don't know about the correct pylon.

Well, it could make a good WIF for an F-15C. Maybe a Langley or Edwards airframe.

Well, on the whole, F-15s are dead last in terms of my favorite F-teen fighters, but I've got a couple of "light greys" in the stash... ones earmarked for a Kadena 44th bird, and I wasn't sure what to do with the other.

Oh man, there are so many cool possibilities. Luke stripes, Israeli Mig killers, ADC colors, just to name a few.

the ASAT jet appeals to me due to the loadout and the tail markings I think

I agree, cool jets. I'll trade you your single for a double if you want. Or, I recall the old Revell single seat 1/32 jet that had the blue starburst on the tail and the asat slung underneath. Hasegawa did that one too. That was pretty cool...
Do you have the Two Bobs sheet? I think they're still listed for sale Last edited by meagap; April 6th, 2014 at 02:25 PM. |

Wow I had forgotten about that. The kit not only has the ASAT missile with pylon but also includes decal markings for the ASAT missile and markings for the -086 bird with the ASAT tail art in addition to the 318 FIS (blue starburst) markings.
