Sorry, I was on the treadmill when I was posting earlier and didn't see the post subject.

Throttles are light grey.

Very unusual load out but as long as you have two rails on the belly it would be legal.

Thanks Gerry. I like the idea of an odd ball load. Something unlikely but "could" happen.

Gerry...what was the approximate paint schedule for early jets? 2-3 years? And lets say by the end of 74 and the beginning of 76, how much gloss was left? Do you think semi-gloss would be a better finish for that time frame?

There wasn't really a paint schedule for the Tomcat as far as the aircraft getting completely repainted. Touch up painting was done during the 42 day special inspection (done ever 42 days/ after 1988 it was switched to every 56 days) but it was technically illegal to repaint the entire aircraft because it would have to be re-weighed and also required Wing approval.

With that said, the gloss gull grey paint held up a hell of a lot better than the TPS paint so it didn't weather as badly and the touch up painting didn't make it look like a Leopard. It did however lose it shine, the gloss would dull quickly under bright sun so I would recommend semi-gloss with dull patches, especially along either side of the spine (heavy walk way area), the port side of the nose (from when the gun fired) and the nacelles aft of the main landing gear.

My pleasure

On the top of the nose, just aft of the radome there should be a small round panel, the string will come out of the trailing edge of that panel at the 12 o'clock position. The string is 8 inches long (on the real thing) so it should stretch to just a few inches short of the base of the windscreen.

No, we never had flags attached to the nose cones, that was just another piece of FOD we would have to worry about and they would get into the way when stowing them in the Baker Box.

We also did not load them with the TDD cover installed, that was removed during weapon inspection and stowed.
