Okay, here we go. Let's see if I can finish the project before the GB deadline. Kit preview
Just because I had the parts and it was easy to do, I sanded off the side intakes and replaced them with Hasegawa parts. Before ![]() After ![]() I also added a Hasegawa chaff bucket to the tail. (OA-4Ms could carry 3 of them. The other 2 went beside the forward end of the tailhook.) ![]() The Monogram OA-4M molds are dated "1985". (The A-4E/F molds are even older.) As expected, I need to fill ejection pin marks and use styrene spacers to adjust fit in some places. ![]() The gaps in the slat area were filled as was the incorrect trim tab on the starboard aileron. ![]() Here it is mocked up - ![]()

Cool!
Built one OOB back in the day. I'll be keeping notes. What are you going to do for markings?

Got two of these in the stash. This will be an excellent reference build for me to go to school on......What markings are you gonna use? I think Dave threatened to put out a sheet for the OA-4M at one time last year. We can only hope.....Cliff

I plan on using the H&MS-12 decals from the Hasegawa re-box of the kit -

Wow, nice start. Thanks for the tip on the trim tab. Gee you would think I would know that since the Skyhawk is one of my favourite aircraft.
I have the original Monogram kit but I am not too crazy about the decals. Maybe I will see what I can cobble together from my spare bin. Cheers Chris |

What are you talking about? I built 3 tanks last week. I dunno why you're so into building those things.
![]() ![]() I expected the old Monogram tanks to suck up the filler for the seams and ejection pin marks. The middle one is a Hasegawa tank. Suprisingly, the tailcone of the tank required some filler. I managed to obliterate nearly all of the raised detail on the tanks. Here is all the aftermarket I intend to use. ![]() Its the engine face, intakes and mainwheels from the KMC update for the old Monogram A-4E/F Skyhawk.

Gee!!
I think Jarheads thin alike! Just got one from the local contest at a vendor's table. Waited until the third and last day, as vendors were packing up. I asked him, "Taking all these models back?"...to which he reponded, "Something you like?", to which I answered, "The OA-4M, looks like it's been boxed up for ages...how much?"...he said..."10 bucks....after a long pause".....I said, "Okey Dockey!". And that was the MOST I spent. $10.00 USD for the first time in my life. So, I need to get my hands on some stuff, perhaps hangar queen Hasegawa's kits, unless I find some KMC stuff in somebody's stash. I look forward to your build. I MOST likely will scribe mine, might have to custom made decal by one of those gifted modelers...like......Dave? ![]() Rio<*> Semper Fi!

Man, I started this project over a year ago and Hasegawa still hasn't announced a 1/48 OA-4M. What are they waiting for? Do I really have to work on and finish this thing before they'll announce it?

I thought a company announced a new 1/48 OA-4M for late 2015 or 2016. I can't find the info now.
