It's amazing how much character these machines have. I used to enjoy taxiing onto a ramp and watching all the heads turn to look at us. Even today, they are extremely durable and reliable aircraft. I have a bit over 1000 hours in them, and only had three engine failures. Good times.

We still have a small fleet of C-47's ( 4, I believe) that fly for the Mosquito Control. They buzz my house regularly at night during the summer dumping some crap that is probably slowly killing me, but what a great sound! Had a chance to fly in a DC-3 run by Air Sunshine from Key West to Miami back in the 70's....great memories.....Cliff

I'll add a couple. This is a DC-3 that was originally purchased by AAL in 1938 (IIRC) and was restored to it's 1938 configuration. Photos were taken in Smyrna, TN in May of 2006...

My dad was at Stout Field in Indianapolis from 1948 to 1954,the 113th FS then moved to Terre Haute 1954 and he was one of the first to set up the flying op's at HUF,he retired from the 181st TFG/113th TFS in 1982.
