Default Airbus 380 Lufthansa Grey Color code ?

Hi,

a friend of mine is building Revell's A-380.
The instruction call for a mixture of 80% Revell 374 and 20% Revell 47

Since he does not like to mix the colors and usually uses Xtra Colors, he likes to know if there is any Color Code, like RAL or FS for the so called Lufthansa Grey.
Even better does Xtra Color carry this grey in it's inventory ?

Thanks !

The grey is Boeing BAC708 Grey. This is X363 in the Xtracolor range.

For interest, the white is BAC7945 but any pure white will do (and lots of it for an A380 ). IIRC Revell do Lufthansa Blue and Yellow in their own paint range.

In the airline world, Boeing's BAC codes are the nearest to a standard like the Federal Standards, RAL or BS381 codes. Sometimes a FS# or RAL code is quoted for the minor marking colours but generally the airline specifies a colour and the paint manufacturer provides a part number that specifies the type of paint as well as the hue. Often these are matched from a Pantone reference but may be custom mixed. Can make for a complete nightmare for the airliner modeller!

Interesting that Airbus uses Boeing colours!

BAC708 is in fact a new formula grey Boeing uses for is wings. BAC707 (FS16515) was the old colour.

In fact the colour you are after is Xtracolor X359 Airbus Industries Grey.

I may be wrong, but I've always thought that the belly and lower wings of Lufthansa aircraft is darker than Boeing Grey that is fairly light. The Lufthansa grey also seems to have a bluish tint to it, so maybe Dark Compass Grey will be a suitable colour, no?

Hi Jens

You are correct, Lufthansa uses their own colour for the lower fuselage.

The grey used is called "Duralgrau" and has a RLM code 91 and matches RAL 7001 as well or FS36375 which can be found as Model Master 1728.

I have the Boeing paint specs for the Lufthansa 747-8I, and the belly is BAC 708. I've not heard that Boeing has changed its 'standard' grey for wing/body fairings, etc. I know a lot of recent 777s use BAC 707 Gray for those areas.
