Default PBY-5A Blackcat

Got a question. I am working on a 1:48 PBY Blackcat and have a brushed on flat black coat. To add some operational wear I am stalled on how to show fuel stains on the fuselage. A dulled down gloss black, maybe gun metal? From archival photos it looks to be the same color as the fuselage but with a different hue maybe. Any suggestion or criticism will be welcomed.

Different shades of grey, going from dark to lightest to show fuel stains. As for wear and fading of the black paint, lighten the black in various places by adding white or gray to black paint and lightly dry brush it or if you have an airbrush, lightly air brush.

Hi Fireball,
Maybe a bit of Tamiya X-19 Smoke for the fuel stains, it will look kinda wet around the fuelling points or maybe a burnt sienna browny type colour which should show up against the matt black aircraft paint, or how about a tiny little bit of pencil graphite rubbed into the are you want the stains at? Just a few ideas off the top of my head, that I would try.

Thanks GW8345 and Devo666 for the tips, they will definitely go in my, go to help, library. This will be my 18th build since I got back into it so I'm not that up on weathering and operational techniques. I will be sending some pics
