Default F/A-18C nose vents

Can anybody tell me (even roughly) when in F/A-18C production the ventral nose vents changed from louvered to mesh? It'd also be helpful to know when the array of five bullet-shaped protrusions appeared. Based on the options in the Kinetic kit, it was sometime before the vents switched over to mesh.

Prob late 80's to early 90's IIRC. I first remember seeing em on the D's that went to DS...but there are definitely people here who probably know exactly the year they started from.
